Description
Based in Sarawak, Malaysia, Borneo, Mini Film Festival is the longest-running short film festival in Malaysia. Managed by students and academics in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, it steps into the 20th edition which embraces both film and arts.
Starting in 2022, the festival has incorporated different arts into its organisation ranging from music to arts which featured musicians and artists from Sarawak, Borneo hence the festival was rebranded as “Mini Film Festival x Mini Arts Festival”.
The festival has various events, ranging from film screenings to talks and workshops organised to inculcate a love for arts and film appreciation. These events observe participation from neighbouring countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and many more.
The festival collaborates with international partners ranging from regional film festivals and media partners to NGOs, cultural bodies and government agencies with the hope of expanding its network and bringing the best arts and cultural events to Sarawak.
We believe filmmakers and artists, much like us, never settle for their creations in films and arts. They persistently seek the best way to express their thoughts, observations, and commentary on the events around them, be it near or far. This encompasses critical issues like the Israel-Gaza relationship and the growing polarization in contemporary society, as well as pure artistic expression and innovative creative approaches.
Thus, with the theme “SEarcH,” let’s embark on a journey to explore the infinite possibilities that films and arts can unveil. Join us in Kuching in July 2024 for the 20th MFFxMAF! See you soon!
